”Delight in who’s way?”

”The steps of a man are established by YHVH (the LORD), when he delights in his way;” Ps 37:23

As you all know as a family we are on a journey to establish a true relationship with YHVH (The LORD), and though this seems like a simple enough task, we have discovered that in fact it is not as simple as we initially thought.

I believe that the lives of the Great Tzadakim (Righteous ones) are in Scripture as examples for us to follow and not only examples, but also very importantly as motivation for us to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it ”profits a man to serve YHVH (The LORD).” Yes it does! And not just financially but in every area of our lives. Why do I say this? Well, this is part of The Covenant contract terms and conditions. Where can we find these terms and conditions?

Deut 6 Deut 8 Deut 9 Deut 11 Deut 28 Deut 30

In fact the promises to Israel as a nation were given when YHVH (The LORD) sent Moshe (who is likened to the Torah) to take us out of Mitzrayim (Egypt). As you recall YHVH (The LORD) did not say to Israel,

”I have come to save you and take you to a place of bondage and poverty”

In fact Scripture gives witness that believing or stating that it does not profit a man to serve YHVH (The LORD) was one of Job’s sins.

”For he has said, ‘It PROFITS A MAN NOTHING that he should take delight in Elohim (God).’ Job 34:9 (ESV)

No, YHVH (The LORD) understands what Blessing is (because He set its standard) and the truth is Israel would have decided to stay in Mitzrayim (Egypt) rather than follow YHVH (The LORD) via Moshe to more bondage and poverty. No, Scripture records for us that YHVH (The LORD) told Moshe to tell Israel.

”Go and gather the elders of Israel together and say to them, ‘YHVH (The LORD), the Elohim (God) of your fathers, the Elohim (God) of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, has appeared to me, saying, “I have observed you and what has been done to you in Egypt, 17 and I promise that I will bring you up OUT OF AFFLICTION of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, A LAND FLOWING WITH MILK AND HONEY.” Exo 3:16-17 (ESV)

I personally believe that when each one of us hears YHVH’s (The LORD’s) call to turn to Him, and be Saved from our sins, suffering and bondage aka leave ”Spiritual Mitzrayim.” We become a part of Israel and therefore go through the same process of redemption as ”Physical Israel” did 4000 years ago.

Therefore the same message is given to us as was to them.

Replace my name with yours when you read the next paragraph.

”Daniel, I have observed you and what has been done to you in Egypt, 17 and I promise that I will bring you up OUT OF AFFLICTION of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, A LAND FLOWING WITH MILK AND HONEY.”

HaleluYah!

Now YHVH (The LORD) is Righteous, Just and Blameless and therefore just as the Scripture example shows us, if we fail to enter the land flowing with milk and honey, just as the first generation of Israel did. It is not because of any failure on His part but on ours!

Now, I am not saying that we must physically enter the land of Israel right now, Scripture is clear that national salvation of Israel will take place in the end of days.

“Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares YHVH (the LORD), when it shall no longer be said, ‘As YHVH (the LORD) lives who brought up the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt,’ 15 but ‘As YHVH (the LORD) lives who brought up the people of Israel out of the north country and out of all the countries where he had driven them.’ For I will bring them back to their own land that I gave to their fathers” Jer 16:14-15 (ESV)

This national second Exodus will take place in the future. I believe that this redemption from bondage and suffering and subsequent transition to freedom and blessing in every area of our lives, also takes place on the individual level when we come out from the world (Egypt) and enter and remain in covenant with YHVH (The LORD).

How do I know this to be true?

YHVH (The LORD) tells us that once we enter Covenant with Him, He will confirm His covenant with us and He will give us a specific sign of this fact.

Deut 8:18 You shall remember YHVH (the LORD) your Elohim (God), for it is HE WHO GIVES YOU POWER TO GET WEALTH, that HE MAY CONFIRM HIS COVENANT that He swore to your fathers, AS IT IS THIS DAY.

Now, why is it that most of us do not have the ”confirmation sign” of the Covenant?

I put it to you today, that this is our reality because we have simply failed to meet the terms and conditions of the Covenant contract, unlike the great Tzadakim (Righteous ones) in Scripture.

Which brings us back to our focus text.

”The steps of a man are established by YHVH (the LORD), when he delights in his way;” Ps 37:23

When reading this text I always took it to mean that a mans steps would be established when YHVH (The LORD) delighted in said mans way. Which I believe is true. But though it is true it has always been confusing for me because how could I know that YHVH (The LORD) delights in my ways? However I believe the deeper, more foundational and less confusing meaning is.

A mans steps are established once said man DELIGHTS IN YHVH’s (The LORD’s) WAYS.

Why do I say that?

Well according to Scripture there is only ”one way,” and we all must walk in it.

Therefore we all have the same opportunity to walk the exact same ”path – way” that Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moshe, Joshua and King David and so on did,and therefore we all have access to the same Blessings just as the Covenant contract states.

This point of view is confirmed a few vs later in the same Psalm.

”Wait for YHVH (the LORD) and keep His WAY, and He will exalt you to inherit the land; you will look on when the wicked are cut off.” Ps 37:34 (ESV)

This ”way” was specifically shown to Moshe and is contained in what we know as The Written Torah.

”He made known His WAYS to Moses, His acts to the people of Israel.” Ps 103:7 (ESV)

In conclusion.

The challenge to having YHVH’s (The LORD’s) favour and therefore the complete Blessings that the Great Tzadakim (Righteous ones) had, is that we must ”DELIGHT” in YHVH’s (The LORD’s) WAYS aka TORAH.

The word translated as delight in this text is the Hebrew word ”Châphêts” Strong’s Concordance number H2654 and this is its meaning according to “The Ancient Hebrew Lexicon of the Bible,” by Jeff A. Benner – Chaphets: To desire something out of pleasure or necessity.

Do we believe that YHVH’s (The LORD’s) Way – Torah is a ”pleasure” and therefore desire to DO it?

Do we believe that YHVH’s (The LORD’s) Way – Torah is a ”necessity” and therefore believe we MUST have and DO it?

And here lays the stumbling block!

At least for me, as there are many things in Torah that my western mind has a very difficult time accepting never mind DELIGHTING in.

However YHVH (The LORD) is not a respecter of persons or cultures and it us who must have our minds renewed.

Adoni (Master) please remove our hearts of stone and may You give us humble hearts of flesh so that we may DELIGHT in Your WAYS.

Shalom.

YHVH (The LORD) willing I am going to do a post on the subject of the difficult Commandments in Torah in the next few days. If you like us truly desire to be in Covenant with YHVH (The LORD) and for Him to confirm His Covenant with you then make sure you don’t miss it
