”Korach’s Rebellion” Part 1

Torah portion thought

This week’s Torah portion has some very interesting points, from Korah’s rebellion to the confirmation of the Eternal Covenant of Levi to a very powerful ‘’Secret’’ Torah witness about how ALL atonement works and most importantly how it points to and is based on the sacrifice of Machiach (Messiah) Yeshua. If you believe in Machiach (Messiah) Yeshua and have had your faith in Him challenged by anti-missionaries then this article would be very interesting for you.

I am going to try and make this as short as possible, however please bear with me as I share this with you as we need to make sure we place all the foundations in place.

Ok let’s get into our discussion.

As a family in the past few months we have had the pleasure of researching aromatics in Scripture and all I can say is I am so amazed as to just how much of a part aromatics play in the relationship between Israel and YHVH (The LORD). Everywhere in Scripture we see aromatics greatly involved in the most intimate of situations between YHVH (The LORD) and Israel. The truly amazing fact is that all human relationships are mirrored off of this relationship, everything that happens in our day to day life teaches us about our Creator and how we should interact with Him.

There is an undeniable link between smell and proximity, and with this in mind we going to take a look at two intimate human experiences were we find aroma and the sense of smell playing a major role and compare how they mirror that of Israel and her Elohim (God).

El Shaddi – The Double Breasted One, a descriptive name of the Elohim (God) of Israel which describes the feminine aspect of our Creator, in whose image all woman were created. Why did YHVH (The LORD) describe Himself in this way to us, was it simply by chance? No, He did this so that when we witness the bonding experience between a new born and its mother which comes about via both mother and child giving off aromatic hormones which are then detected by their sense of smell, we get a truly amazing picture of aromatics and the sense of smell connecting El Shaddi to His children and vis versa. It is also very interesting to note that having described Himself as being double breasted YHVH (The LORD) made reference to the fact that He has four nipples, which would perfectly meet the needs of the four distinct groups of three tribes each that camped around His Tabernacle. Our second example is that of Scripture giving us witness of YHVH (The LORD) being Husband to the two houses of Israel. We understand that the most intimate of all human experiences is human sexuality, and in this intimate experience we find Scripture give evidence of aromatics like Myrrh, Cinnamon and Sandalwood to name a few, playing a major role in the intimate interaction of The King (YHVH) and His beloved (Israel) represented by the two Lovers in the book of Songs of Solomon. From our natural experience we understand that these above mentioned fragrances are mingled together with the beautiful natural hormonal fragrances that our bodies naturally make to create an act and environment of such supernatural intimacy that Scripture describes the man and woman involved in this highly aromatic and intimate act as being ‘’one flesh,’’ there is no other activity that can create this supernatural bond. However it doesn’t end there as Scripture goes on to gives us witness that it is ONLY through this highly aromatic and therefore deeply intimate process that Men and Women are actually able to KNOW each other. There is no doubt in my mind that all these natural experiences that revolve around the sense of smell teach us that aromatics and the sense of smell still play a major role in Israel being able to truly KNOW her Husband and King.

As I am writing this there are so many other fascinating links coming to mind but for the sake of time let’s move on, Ratson YHVH (The LORD Willing) we will look at these other ideas in the near future.

What has all of this nice sounding stuff got to do with this week’s Torah portion?

‘’and he said to Korah and all his company, “In the morning YHVH (the LORD) will show who is His, and who is Kadosh (Holy), and will BRING him NEAR to HIM. THE ONE WHOM HE CHOOSES HE WILL BRING NEAR TO HIM.’’ Num 16:5 (ESV)

Is it not truly astounding that the test and process the Torah (therefore YHVH (The LORD)) gives the two contesting parties (which would cause each to be DRAWN NEAR (intimacy) and judged) would 100% be based on aromatics and therefore His Sense of Smell? Imagine that, what we see here is Torah telling us that the distinction between the wicked and Just is whether or not they are a pleasing aroma! I put it to you that all judgment is based on aroma and the Sense of Smell, the righteous being a pleasing aroma and the wicked a stench in the nostrils of YHVH (The LORD). This Torah witness is truly fascinating as the Jewish sages tell us that HaMachiach (The Messiah) will Judge mankind via His Sense of Smell.

Where do they get this idea?

‘’There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. 2 And the Ruach (Spirit) of YHVH (the LORD) shall rest upon Him, the Ruach (Spirit) of wisdom and understanding, the Ruach (Spirit) of counsel and might, the Ruach (Spirit) of knowledge and the fear of YHVH (the LORD). 3 And His delight shall be in the fear of YHVH (the LORD). HE SHALL NOT JUDGE BY WHAT HIS EYES SEE, OR DECIDE DISPUTES BY WHAT HIS EARS HEAR, 4 but with Righteousness He shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; and He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, and with the breath of His lips He shall kill the wicked.’’ Isa 11:1-4 (ESV)

HaMachiach (The Messiah) will judge in RIGHTEOUSNESS, and RIGHTEOUNESS is a life lived in imitation and obedience to HaMachiach (The Messiah) aka The Word aka The Torah. Such a life Scripture tells us, is a pleasing aroma in YHVH’s (The LORD’s) Face.

It is very interesting to note that the Isa text tell us that Machiach (Messiah) will have the

Ruach (Spirit) of YHVH (The LORD) Ruach (Spirit) of Wisdom Ruach (Spirit) of Counsel and Might Ruach (Spirit) of Knowledge

The Hebrew word ‘’Ruach’’ (Spirit) Strong’s Concordance number H7306 is the root and therefore gives meaning to the Hebrew word ‘’Rêyach’’ Strong’s Concordance number H7381 which means odor (as if blown) savour, scent or smell. HaleluYah! This truly blows my mind as this confirms for us that the Sense of Smell is a highly Spiritual Sense and therefore is of great importance in the walk of every believer. If this idea sparks your interest and you would like to know more about this subject then you got to read or article called

‘’Adam’s Soul and His Sense of Smell’’

There is a school of thought that believes that from the beginning Machiach (Messiah) has been the connecting point between YHVH (The LORD) The Father and all creation. If we are to believe the sages idea that HaMachiach (The Messiah) will judge all mankind via His Sense of Smell it is very interesting to note that The One who makes the judgment in this week’s Torah portion, the one who Israel worships, was going to make Judgement between Aaron and Korah and his rebels via His Sense of Smell, a hint I believe, that Machiach (Messiah) has been the One interacting and judging all creation and Israel form the very beginning.

We are going to touch lightly on the subject of the tribe of Levi and then we will finish off with the very interesting Torah ‘’Secret’’ that confirms sacrifice and therefore Machiach’s (Messiah’s) sacrifice as being the foundation of all atonement.

The simple understand we get from this week’s Torah portion is all positions in life have been set out by YHVH (The LORD). Which family the king of Israel will come from, who the Priests are, who the Levites are, who the lay people are etc. etc. YHVH (The LORD) has set out roles and positions for men, for women, for husbands, for wives, for sons, for daughters, for elders and for the young. Each of these positions come with their own rights, privileges, responsibilities, rules and regulations and these positions and their definitions must be respected at all times and any overturning of these roles is nothing short of rebellion and therefore a stench in YHVH’s (The LORD’s) Face.

The modern western ideal of democracy has no place in Israel and we need to understand this fact. There is no other Ruler and no other opinion in the Kingdom other than YHVH’s (The LORD’s). We need to understand and fully support this fact now, today, before Machiach (Messiah) comes as when He returns it will be too late. No matter our modern understanding the actual tribe of Levi has been given the Priesthood Olam (Forever). There are multiple texts including the miracle of Aarons rod recorded in Torah (Which is eternal and cannot change Deu 4:2, deut 12:32) that confirm this fact for ALL Israel and for ALL its Generations.

‘’Then Moses brought out all the staffs from before YHVH (the LORD) TO ALL THE PEOPLE OF ISRAEL. And they looked, and each man took his staff. 10 And YHVH (the LORD) said to Moses, “PUT BACK THE STAFF OF AARON BEFORE THE TESTIMONY, TO BE KEPT AS A SIGN FOR THE REBELS, THAT YOU MAY MAKE AN END OF THEIR GRUMBLINGS AGAINST ME, LEST THEY DIE.” Num 17:9-10 (ESV)

This is a very serious eternal ruling and warning to all the generations of Israel.

It is very important for us to understand, nobody can change Torah, and anyone who does Israel been warned to reject and execute.

“If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, 2 and the sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, and if he says, ‘Let us go after other gods,’ which you have not known, ‘and let us serve them,’ 3 YOU SHALL NOT LISTEN TO THE WORDS OF THAT PROPHET OR THAT DREAMER OF DREAMS. FOR YHVH (THE LORD) YOUR Elohim (GOD) IS TESTING YOU, TO KNOW WHETHER YOU LOVE YHVH (THE LORD) YOUR Elohim (GOD) WITH ALL YOUR HEART AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL. 4 YOU SHALL WALK AFTER YHVH (THE LORD) YOUR Elohim (GOD) AND FEAR HIM AND KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS AND OBEY HIS VOICE, AND YOU SHALL SERVE HIM AND HOLD FAST TO HIM.’’ Deut 13:1-4 (ESV)

Remember these eternal words that can never, ever, ever be changed and especially apply to any person that Israel may think is HaMachicah (The Messiah). He is to be judged as being a true or false Machiach (Messiah) by his obedience or disobedience to Torah (Gen – Deut).

‘’‘To the Torah (Gen-Deut) and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.’’ Isa 8:20 (KJV)

In fact Tanakh tells us that if anyone so much as speaks in any way that contradicts Torah (Gen – Deut) that person has no part in Righteous Israel. But knowing how rebellious Israel as a nation are YHVH (The LORD) gave more warning in the Tanakh (Old Testament) via His Prophets. What better way to prove to ALL Israel that the tribe of Levi’s Priesthood is eternal then by Levi’s Priesthood being part of ‘’The New Covenant’’ sealed in The Blood of Machiach (messiah)! This may come as a shock to many people but it is 100% true.

Not many people have been taught where the actual text of The New Covenant is found and today we going to look at them as they hold some truly fascinating information. This information is what Machiach (Messiah) and His disciples had in mind as He rose His Cup and said.

‘’In the same way also He took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 1 Cor 11:25

In fact this is what the writer of the Book of Hebrews had in mind when he wrote

‘’and to Yeshua (Jesus), the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.’’ Heb 12:24

Everybody in the 1st Century who saw Machiach (Messiah) Yeshua and His Disciples Live and teach knew exactly what the New Covenant was and where it was found in Scripture, and they all perfectly understood it’s terms and conditions.

With that in mind are you ready to take a look at the actual ‘’The New Covenant’’ text?

‘’For he finds fault with them when he says: “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, 9 not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt. For they did not continue in my covenant, and so I showed no concern for them, declares the Lord. 10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 11 And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. 12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.’’ Heb 8:8-11 (ESV)

This is part of the actual text of The New Covenant that is sealed by the blood of Machiach (Messiah) Yeshua. Now the thing that is not immediately noticeable is that this text in the book of Hebrews in the New Testament is actually a direct quote verbatim of a text from the writings of the Prophet Jeremiah.

“Behold, the days are coming, declares YHVH (the LORD), when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, 32 not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares YHVH (the LORD). 33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares YHVH (the LORD): I will put my TORAH (GEN – DEUT) within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their Elohim (God), and they shall be my people. 34 And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know YHVH (the LORD),’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares YHVH (the LORD). For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.” Jer 31:31-34 (ESV)

Now the above text is the first portion of The New Covenant and there is a second portion that is often overlooked and this second portion holds the most fascinating information. Let us take a look at the second portion.

“Behold, the days are coming, declares YHVH (the LORD), when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. 15 In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David, and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. 16 In those days Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will dwell securely. And this is the name by which it will be called: ‘YHVH (The LORD) is our righteousness.’ 17 “For thus says YHVH (the LORD): David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel, 18 AND THE LEVITICAL PRIESTS SHALL NEVER LACK A MAN IN MY PRESENCE TO OFFER BURNT OFFERINGS, TO BURN GRAIN OFFERINGS, AND TO MAKE SACRIFICES FOREVER.” 19 The word of YHVH (the LORD) came to Jeremiah: 20 “Thus says YHVH (the LORD): IF YOU CAN BREAK MY COVENANT WITH THE DAY AND MY COVENANT WITH THE NIGHT, SO THAT DAY AND NIGHT WILL NOT COME AT THEIR APPOINTED TIME, 21 THEN ALSO MY COVENANT WITH DAVID MY SERVANT MAY BE BROKEN, SO THAT HE SHALL NOT HAVE A SON TO REIGN ON HIS THRONE, AND MY COVENANT WITH THE LEVITICAL PRIESTS MY MINISTERS. 22 AS THE HOST OF HEAVEN CANNOT BE NUMBERED AND THE SANDS OF THE SEA CANNOT BE MEASURED, SO I WILL MULTIPLY THE OFFSPRING OF DAVID MY SERVANT, AND THE LEVITICAL PRIESTS WHO MINISTER TO ME.” 23 The word of YHVH (the LORD) came to Jeremiah: 24 “Have you not observed that these people are saying, ‘YHVH (The LORD) has rejected the two clans that he chose’? Thus they have despised my people so that they are no longer a nation in their sight. 25 Thus says YHVH (the LORD): If I have not established my covenant with day and night and the fixed order of heaven and earth, 26 then I will reject the offspring of Jacob and David my servant and will not choose one of his offspring to rule over the offspring of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will restore their fortunes and will have mercy on them.” Jer 33:14-26 (ESV)

Wow, the fact that we still experience Day and Night is witness that the Tribe of Levi’s Priesthood is still in effect. The Priesthood of Levi is sealed in The New Covenant by The Blood of Machiach (Messiah) Yeshua in the Heavenly Temple! It can NEVER be changed. No ordinary person of Israel may take Levi’s set apart position or gifts such as ‘’tithe’s’’ and ‘’offerings’’ and to do so is nothing short as to be part of the rebellion of Korah and a stench in the face of YHVH (The LORD).

‘’Then YHVH (the LORD) spoke to Aaron, “Behold, I have given you charge of the contributions made to me, ALL THE CONSECRATED THINGS OF THE PEOPLE OF ISRAEL. I HAVE GIVEN THEM TO YOU AS A PORTION AND TO YOUR SONS AS A PERPETUAL DUE.’’ Num 18:8 (ESV)

The above gifts are every offering e.g firstfruits etc.

“TO THE LEVITES I HAVE GIVEN EVERY TITHE IN ISRAEL FOR AN INHERITANCE, in return for their service that they do, their service in the tent of meeting’’ Num 18:21 (ESV)

‘’…It shall be a perpetual statute throughout your generations, and among the people of Israel they shall have no inheritance. 24 FOR THE TITHE OF THE PEOPLE OF ISRAEL, WHICH THEY PRESENT AS A CONTRIBUTION TO YHVH (THE LORD) I HAVE GIVEN TO THE LEVITES FOR AN INHERITANCE Therefore I have said of them that they shall have no inheritance among the people of Israel.” Num 18:23-24 (ESV)

If we who claim to be a part of Israel claim that the Torah has given us The Promised land as an eternal inheritance then how do we discredit the very same Torah telling us that the tribe of Levi has the Tithes as their inheritance?

To further drive this point home there is not a single New Testament text that shows any Righteous non Levite disciple or teacher accept a tithe or Temple offering (first fruits etc) from a fellow Israelite in the 1st century.

If we desire the blessings related to the return of the tithes found in Mal 3 we must obey not only the Instructions/Laws regarding all the aspects of Tithes (When we should give them and to whom) but also the entire Torah as ALL Blessings in Torah come about as a total package deal.

To further cement this understanding, just like the ‘’Double breasted’’ idea, Israel camped in four main camps around the Tabernacle. It is very interesting to note that the witness given by YHVH (The LORD) in proving His eternal choice of the tribe of Levi over all others, was YHVH (The LORD) causing four things to happen to the staff of the tribe of Levi, one proof for each main camp.

The Rod/Authority of Levi 1) sprouted 2) put forth buds 3) produced blossoms 4) bore ripe almonds

For the sake of time and length we will have to bring this discussion to a close, if you interested in finding out about the ‘’Secret’’ in this week’s Torah portion that validates that ALL atonement rests on the sacrifice and therefore the Sacrifice of Machiach (Messiah) please look out for part 2 of this discussion coming soon to our Facebook page and blog.
